This Season’s “Must Have” Shoes — Tickle Your Feet!

Posted by Tips Guides in Clothing

As women, we are genetically pre-dispositioned to want, need, and lust after shoes. Even if our closet is overflowing with shoes that we often don’t wear, we’ll buy more. Let’s face it, if they’re on sale, we have to buy them even if we don’t need them, if only because they’re on sale. If we truly love them and they’re way out of our price range, we’ll still buy them, even if it means sacrificing our next two paychecks and eating ramen for the rest of the month. Either way, we know that what we put on our feet can make or break our outfit. So, is there a solution to the maddening love affair? A way to have shoes that are both affordable and adorable? This seasons hottest shoes are not breaking the bank, and thankfully, designers have wisened up so they’re not killing our arches either. The heel on sandals has come down, and some are now even sporting a paper-thin, platform heel in the back.

Warm weather brings flip-flops, of course. These are nice, flat, and thanks to high demand by both ladies and gents alike, we can get them on the cheap and easy, or, we can pay a bit more for something sparkly and fly. Designers are also including bejeweled lines in stores, channeling some of the South American influence that we’ve seen in clothing and handbags. Trends are pointing towards the flip-flop on a small, petit heel, with an ankle strap as well; if you want even more flair, choose a pair that has a rhinestone encrusted buckle. Remember to always keep your pedi up to date as your feet are the focus of attention when wearing an open toed shoe.

Ballet flats are a sweet and innocent looking summer steal, even when you sport them in leopard print. These shoes can go from the boardroom to the boardwalk and you’ll look great, plus your feet will be thanking you because they’re a shoe of such simple construction. Dressed up or down, these shoes are so versatile you truly can wear them anywhere! Not only that, but as graceful and demure as dancers are, it can make you feel very much like the princess when you slip your feet in to them.

Slingback flats are a low-key style that bridge the precarious gap between total utility and ultimate femininity. As with other great summer shoes, slingbacks can be worn with anything from a corporate pantsuit to bermuda style shorts with a blousy tank or peasant blouse. Last summer, espadrille sandals were wildly popular, as they continue to be this year also. Pair the feminine and sexy style of the this shoe with a more updated bamboo or cork wedge heel and you’ve got a look with staying power. Because this heel provides a solid construction, your foot is well supported and you should be able to spend the day in a pair of these. You’ll find almost all of these styles manufactured in a variety of materials, from canvas and linen to organic cotton and vegan; no matter what you crave, there is a color and style to match any taste.

So, there you have it girls! Go get some great shoes that won’t break your bankroll. Summer is a season to be fun and carefree - the year, show your fun and spunky side by letting your feet do the walking AND the talking!

Dress To Impress

Posted by Tips Guides in Clothing

Long nights of making the best thesis are finally over. Luckily, you are not one to bum around after college. You’re now off to really make it big out there. Confident that you have enough experience from your on the job trainings and internships, you search for the job that you feel would suit your skills best.

You mass produce tons of resumes and application letters to send out to various companies applying for similar positions. Then one day, you are scheduled for an interview in one of the most prestigious companies. One big question surfaces - What do I wear? In three seconds, a person can already make his judgment on your total physical appearance and first impressions last. In this case, you are marketing yourself as the product. So if this is your first job interview, you just have to dress to impress.

First and foremost, an artist always starts with a good and clean canvass. So the best way to begin dressing up is to start with a clean body. Practice personal hygiene. No wild hairstyles or skinheads. Keep hair neat and tidy. While you are at it, spraying on perfumes and putting on deodorants will do you good as well. Just don’t go over-the-top and reek. A clean set of teeth and fresh-smelling breath will add points and, of course, a clean set of fingernails is definitely a pleasing sight, too.

After such preparations, it’s time for the real deal. Dressing up is supposed to be fun, so even if it’s for a job interview, incorporate your own style, too. But to be safe, call up the company and ask if they have a dress code. Now, if you don’t want to call them up, dress up a bit conservative and smarter than you used to.

Power Dressing 101

1. For suits, darker suits work better in special affairs than light ones. You can try suits that come in navy blue and charcoal colors like gray. Wearing black suits, on the other hand, may seem too serious, as if you’re going to a funeral. Invest in quality suits that you can mix and match. You may also opt for long-sleeved button-down polo in white or pale colors. If you don’t want color blocking, stripes are alright but avoid the ones with wild prints or patterns on them. Remember, you want to look professional. Also, make sure that at least one inch of the sleeve peek out from under the suit jacket whenever you wear it. Lastly, make sure the suit is dry cleaned and ironed well.

2. As for ties, your best bet is the ones that are made of silk. Whatever your style is, never ever opt for ties that have cartoon character prints on them.

3. Your socks should match your pants or shoes. So you better stock up on blue, black, gray and brown socks. Avoid showing some skin when you cross your legs by choosing a pair that is long enough.

4. Shiny and polished shoes, preferably in black leather, make a great impact. It is a tell-tale sign of how clean and organized you are as a person that you even take your time cleaning your shoes. Avoid looking too casual by not opting for loafers. One thing to check, too, is the soles. Make sure that they aren’t worn out. If they are, head to the local shoe repair shop.

5. Accessorize right by not overdoing it. Don’t wear flashy accessories. Go for plain and simple watches instead of those ones with blinding diamonds. Leather belts that complement your shoes are a good choice. Last but not the least, if you have to bring a briefcase to complete your look, opt for the ones that come in neutral colors that will complement most of your suits.

Looking good is a sure way of getting their attention but it’s the confidence that can truly make you stand out.

Swimwear Cleaning And Design

Posted by Tips Guides in Clothing

Yes, it is possible to get one…at a price. I do not know of any patterns. You would have to scour the web to find something similar. I do custom crochet work and design swimwear. I can do this, but I do not use a pattern.

I assume your reluctance to use the non-chlorine bleach (usually called color safe bleach on the boxes) is out of fear of damaging the garment. You must consider that a swimsuit is designed to go swimming, and swimming pools usually contain chlorine. This is the principle ingredient in regular bleach and is pretty aggressive.

Also, garments sold in the US must meet certain standards for use and care, which include having a label with care instructions and standing up to those care instructions. If the label says use non-chlorine bleach, then you should have no reservations about doing so.

My bigger concern is why the yellowing to being with. If the suit is older, then this can be expected, and may not be reversible. If the suit is new, however, this seems to me to be a manufacturing defect and you may want to consider returning it for a refund. A reputable drycleaner or the International Fabricate Institute might also be helpful to you in this case.

As to your specific situation, I can only think of two possible explanations:

A sun/heat reaction to suntan oils or other personal care items. A suit not manufactured to US standards.

I would try a machine washing of the suit to see what you get. It does not sound to me like you will get a lot of improvement, but it is worth a try.

Your caution about using bleach is warranted. Typically, chlorine bleach is to be avoided on nylon, spandex, etc., common fabrics for swimsuits. However, in your case, it may be the only thing left to try. What does the care label say?

I’m assuming that the suit was sold via a US retail outlet? If so, you can probably rule out the manufacturing quality issue, but not with complete certainty. It might be worth your time to stop in and ask the store where you bought the suit if they have had any other issues.

It is possible that you have a color bleed from the lining, even though it is a different color. Many dyes experience pigment changes over time, when they bleed, or even as a result of a reaction from some catalyst (heat, light, perfume, chemicals, salt, - could be a lot of things). But again, for this to be the case, then there would have to be a manufacturing fault.

You might also try taking the suit to a reputable drycleaner, or avail yourself of the “Ask an Expert” utility on the International Fabricate Institute. They may have more technical knowledge from the fabric standpoint than I do.

You bet I’ve got an idea. RIT (the dye people) have several products to keep things white. The type you would want would depend on the fabric content of your suit. So find that on the label (probably nylon, lyre and spandex) and find the right type for your suit. Follow directions and you’ll keep it white! It’s always good to wash and rinse your suit after each use.

Just while you’re showering wash and rinse the suit. If you want to keep it in really good chap and keep the chlorine in check, make a solution of water, cheap laundry soap and aquarium de-chlorinator (this is gotten at pet stores-get a small bottle and add about 2 tsp. to a 8-12 oz bottle with the water and soap).

What To Wear If You Are Pear Shaped

Posted by Tips Guides in Clothing

Firstly, clothing sizes. This is a really grey area - I’m often a medium, but sometimes clothing lines which only specify ’small, medium or large’ are really quite dodgy and I end up a small.

The only thing you can really do is a) find a shop which sells these things and check there or b) if you’re buying online, check the returns policy on the website. If in doubt, and the site won’t let you return things, find a friend or a seamstress (or even yourself, if you know how) to take the item in for you.

The dresses and skirts question is equally tricky as despite being pear-shaped myself, I find some things suit me very well, and a different skirt in the same style but from a different shop looks terrible. As a general rule, stay away from anything that rides too low on the hips, go for a wide waistband and make sure it FITS. The last one is an absolute must, because no matter how many people tell you something will suit you, if it’s a size too small, or the zip sticks out, or the waistband won’t lie flat you will look terrible.

Your best bet to find out what suits YOU is to go shopping with an honest and well-dressed friend and just try on everything you like the look of.

You are not alone at all. So, what to wear if you are a ‘pear’? Trousers or skirts that emphasize your well defined waist area (softly pleated or flat-fronted). Try hipster trousers, as these will eliminate that gaping waist problem common to all pear shaped women. A-line skirts/wraps are by far the most flattering for ‘pears’ as they slim the hips and emphasize the smaller waist area. Short, tight skirts should be avoided as these will accentuate the tops of your thighs, and divert attention to that problematic area below the waist

Avoid light colored bottoms and stick to darker blues and browns which absorb the light

Tops should be fitted and focus the eye to your upper body (beautiful necklines, patterns and colors). They should not be baggy as these will cover your waist, and instead should finish at the top of your hips so that your waist is emphasized

Choose accessories (jeweler and scarves) that avert attention upward away from the hips and thighs.

If you’re in the majority you will be a classic British pear shape (carrying most your stored fat around the thigh, hip, and bottom area). Rest assured that you are not the only one who gets frustrated when trying on a pair of jeans that gape around the waist area and can barely squeeze past your hips and thighs. Given that 70% of British women fall in to this category it is surprising that manufacturers of jeans still haven’t cottoned on to the idea of making a well fitting pair of jeans for pear shaped women.

However in the mean time your best bet is to head straight for the clothing rail labeled ‘hipsters’. Hipsters are great in avoiding the gaping waist scenario we all hate, as they sit on your hips not the waist.

Any pair of jeans with a low-cut waistband will make your bottom look smaller. Make sure the jeans are boot-cut, as these styles will balance out heavier hips and thighs. Jeans should be dark - steer away from light colors and paler ‘washed look’ jeans as these will do you no favors. Finally don’t be tempted by denims containing stretchy materials such as Lycra as although these may seem more comfortable they will accentuate your problem areas below the waist by clinging to hips and thighs. Follow these guidelines and we think you will find your ‘pear-fact’ pair of jeans!

Mens Clothing Suit Styles

Posted by Tips Guides in Clothing

Suit jackets certainly can be worn with other things, but you’re right, you do have to be careful. Can you let me know your husband’s age and size? The last thing I want to do is recommend unsuitable attire!

Also, have you checked with a tailor that the pants cannot be altered? Most suit pants can be either let out or taken in by up to 1 3/4 inches if done properly, and of course the hems can be altered to suit length as well.

Ok, the dark blue subtle pinstripe, this is where the importance of your husband’s age comes in! I would recommend using this for an informal/formal look and teaming it with a smart pair of jeans, and a formal work shirt.

Matching this jacket with a pair of formal pants will be nigh on impossible, but matching it with jeans and going for a casual yet still smart look is easily done. What you have to do is think about the accessories. As I said, a nice oxford shirt in either a pale blue or white, along with a pair of smart jeans and then a black belt and black shoes, either plain oxfords or perhaps a pair of suede loafers even.

For the glen plaid, this can be matched into something more formal and worn almost as you would a sports jacket. Pants will have to be dark, plain and pleated. I would recommend dark navy pants, and brown shoes and belt. In terms of shirt and tie, you can’t go far wrong with a white shirt, and then a tie that brings out a bit of the color in the glen plaid, so a tie with a hint of red in would go nicely.

If you are looking for a more western interpretation, then you can find suits with a mandarin influence, or perhaps a Nehru style suit which fuses Indian themes within the suit style. I would avoid the white shirt/black tie routine, it’ll either make you look like you’re going to a funeral, or going to carry out a hit on someone!

What you need for interviews is something safe, but also nice and smart. You can’t go too far wrong with a pastel blue (not a navy blue, more of a sky blue) cotton shirt with tie that has gold/yellow/blue in it. Alternatively a lilac shirt with a tie that has a combination of purple/blue in it works well.

A general rule of thumb that I advise is that the darker the shirt, the lighter the tie color to lift it. The opposite of that works too, i.e. if you’re wearing a very light shirt, then a heavier colored tie is good.

I say go ahead and buy the suit. It sounds like a winner. There are always a lot of questions asking whether or not a double breasted suit is hip and I say it can be. It’s a classic look that will never go out of style - although, sometimes the look is more “in fashion” than others. However, because this suit is a classic it tends to look better on men and not young men or teens.

What To Look For In An NCAA Jersey

Posted by Tips Guides in Clothing

Buying sports clothing has definitely become a very appealing market for most teenagers and young adults. Statistical reports show that nearly 70% of teenager’s clothing are geared towards sports. In fact, the popularity of a certain sports apparel is increased if it is being worn or endorsed by their favorite sports celebrities.

The trend today for most teenagers is to have that widely held jacket, cap, or that well-known sports jersey and wear it whenever he goes out with his friends or goes to school.

With the growing trend in this industry, more and more manufacturers are trying to come up with fashionable sports apparel that will provide not just comfortable shield against environmental stressors but also improve one’s overall appearance.

With that in mind the popular sports association in the United States, the National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA, has decided to produce specially designed jerseys to meet the demands of the consumers.

An expert in the field of sports organization and handling of different sports events, NCAA knows how important it is to maintain the spirit of sports enthusiasm reflected on their NCAA jerseys. In this way, the energy that binds people together to root for their favorite team in a particular sport is extended even if the game is over. Just by wearing NCAA jerseys, people are ensured that the sports spirit will remain in their mind, body, and heart.

NCAA jerseys, just like the other sports jerseys, are representations of those shirts being worn by the team members of a particular sport. Jerseys bear the name of the team member’s name and team number as well as the team’s company sponsor or the team’s logo.

When buying NCAA jerseys, there are certain factors and tips that you must consider before you go out and purchase one. Here is how:

1. The right type of apparel

NCAA jerseys do not have to look good on everybody. Hence, even if a certain NCAA jersey looked good on your friend, it does not necessarily follow that it will look good on you. Therefore, it is best that you try to consider the style or the type of apparel that you will wear and see if it will look good on you before you try buying the item.

Comfort may be one of the top priorities when buying NCAA jerseys, but it is likewise important to know if that jersey will bring out the best in you. Besides, if you are trying to flaunt your specially designed NCAA jersey, then, you must really have to look good with it.

2. Authenticity

The popularity of NCAA jerseys is rooted on the fact that the qualities of the materials used are superior. Hence, it is best to always go for the authenticity of the material. Do not just believe on the claims of different vendors saying that their NCAA jersey is authentic.

In most cases, serial numbers or holograms are the primary basis of authenticity.

3. Autographed

NCAA jerseys are further popularized by the fact that most of them bear the signature of their favorite sports celebrity. Hence, it is best to consider the authenticity of the signature such as ensuring it is autographed or hand signed and not just a copy of the actual signature.

4. The type of material used

It is best to always buy NCAA jersey that provides optimum comfort. Experts highly recommend comfortable sports apparel especially those that are made up of cotton. This material has been proven to be effective in providing coziness and durability. NCAA jerseys should not just look good on you but should also promote comfort by allowing air to pass through in and out of your body, thereby, promoting optimal breathability.

5. Distributor

You can buy NCAA jerseys directly from the NCAA itself. However, there are some companies that were endowed with the right to exclusively distribute NCAA jerseys. It is best to verify the background of the company first if they are duly recognized and authorized by the NCAA to sell or distribute their sports jerseys.

Indeed, buying NCAA jerseys may seem like buying an ordinary clothing. However, if you really know the value of the item, you will know that it is extremely important to keep these things in mind so that there will be no effort or money lost.
