Diamonds Can Be More Than For Ever

Posted by Tips Guides in Jewelry

Loose diamonds and gemstones were historically seen as ordinary only if you worked at the mint or at the kings treasury. Or if you worked for some grand family who had a great lady who showed off such finery. In his Canterbury Tales Chaucer speaks of many characters taking that patronage path to the most sacred land in England on the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral. The Widow of Bath was an extravegant lady of riches and spoke about her various husbands and how they invariably died in some battle or other.

The Widow of Bath acquired all her recently deceased husbands properties and titles and land holdings with the demise of each husband. She now had such great wealth and so many dependent uponn her good nature to keep such a large household industrious and happy. Meanwhile we might imagine a young lad who has been denied the mortal joys of spending many months trudging on foot all the way over the kingdom to give thanks or mercy for some Thomas killed by the kings men hundreds of years ago.

Some many were planning a career a few ones would learn the craft of gemsman, or later gemologist, and begin the process of reading the soul of a stone and knowing quickly the gem from the also ran. As is said to know how to cut well is to be able to see well cut. And to begin to understand well cut help you relize how short cuts by the cutter to make a larger face for example then pulls the diamond in elsewhere and the gem is made less than had it been given respect for what it what and not have the cutter place pretensions on the diamond or gemstone it could not meet.

When a gemstone has been debased by a bad cut the failure is in the greedy eye and scheming heart of the cutter not the diamond, which could have given more had it not been debased in this way. If the cutter approaches the gem with the purity of heart and soul he will be precise and sensitive to he fault lines in the stone. The truth of this is in the concept that it is in the precise cutting that very much affects the grace and price value of any stone. You should remember that there are several cutting styles applied in the use of faceted stones.

Faceted stones are those on which a series of tiny flat planes, or faces, have been cut and polished. Nonfaceted stones are called cabochons. There are a number of cuttings styles used for faceted stones. While the stones can be brilliant there can also be the thrill of learning to look through your loupe and see inside your gemstones. To first see a good quality diamond through your loupe is quite a thrill. These are brilliantly cut as seen in round diamonds or step cut and mixed cut which combines both last styles.

Either way hobby or investment interest you and your small investors tool your Loupe and you may have many happy and rewarding years. Diamonds are after all at least For Ever.

Tanning Bed Safety — Avoiding These Tanning Concerns

Posted by Tips Guides in Beauty

Those who purchase residential tanning beds usually see them as a safer alternative to lying out in the direct sunlight. A tanning bed allows you to control the exposure to your skin, but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee a safe tan. By following these basic guidelines, you will ensure a safe tan without the risk of these concerns.

Preventing Sunburns

People usually know the most common concern with residential tanning beds is the risk of sunburn laying too long in the bed. Unlike heading over to a salon, home units put you in a relaxing mood that can lead to enjoying the warmth and staying in the bed too long. If you have fair skin, you should start out with only a few minutes. As your fair skin achieves a good base tan and doesn’t experience any sensitivity to the UV rays, you should then gradually increase the amount of time. Use a high SPF sunblock if you go outside in the sun after a treatment so your skin doesn’t absorb more UV rays.

If your skin does burn, don’t tan again until your skin has healed completely, including no peeling or redness. If you expose your skin to UV rays before it is completely healed, you risk the burn going deeper. Do your best to avoid sunburns as repeated burns significantly increase the risk of skin cancer.

Protect Your Eyes

Whether you tan at a salon or make use of one of the many units meant for home use, you should always wear specialized goggles. Wearing sunglasses, closing your eyes, or covering your eyes with a towel will not adequately protect your eyes from the UV rays. Without adequate eye protection, the UV rays can burn your retina or other portion of your eye, leading to cataracts or temporary or even permanent blindness. This is a huge price to pay for golden brown skin. Specialized goggles will prevent the UV rays from affecting your eyes. And with goggle styles without bands or arms, you don’t even have to worry about tan lines.

Cover Your Nails, Hair, And Tattoos

True, it isn’t life threatening or even necessarily dangerous to tan without protecting your nails, hair, and tattoos, but it can definitely take the fun out of your fashion choices, personal statements, and use of residential tanning beds.

Consider wearing disposable, sticker shields over your nails, especially if you just got a manicure, so your nails don’t develop a yellow tint. If you cover your hair when basking under the rays, you will prevent your hair from drying out and your hair color from fading. To keep your new tattoo looking great, wait until your skin has finished peeling, has healed, and has grown a new layer of skin before jumping in for a treatment. Applying a high SPF sunblock to the tattooed skin will help prevent fading.

Residential tanning beds give you comfort and convenience right at home. As long as you keep these tips in mind, you will not only tan, but you’ll tan safely. If you think of your tanning bed as being the same as the direct sun, you’ll have a relaxing and safe experience.

Tips and Guides: Christine O’Kelly writes for the tanning bed experts at ESB Tanning Systems. They offer residential tanning beds of almost any style featuring the industry’s most current technology, performance, quality, and style.

Information About Abdominoplasty Procedures

Posted by Tips Guides in Beauty

Now in a lot of cases there are set procedures that are for just about anyone such as breast augmentation, rhytidectomy, lip augmentation and rhinoplasty. But for the most part abdominoplasty also known as tummy tucks are usually for older women but also can be for younger women as well. But how safe is this? How much does it cost? And more importantly does it help? Well in any situation involving surgery, it doesn’t matter if its brain surgery, or some sort of an augmentation, there are always going to be risks. However, if you listen to the suggestions your doctor gives you for the risk preventives, you really should be okay. Also, each cosmetic procedure has its risks and high risks. For example, for breast augmentation there are a lot of risk factors including but not limited to, bacteria, job not done right, side effects, etc. Abdominoplasty on the other hand has fewer risks, and most of the risks happen very rarely.

For those curious about what an Abdominoplasty is or requires; by definition the Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose tissues after pregnancy or individuals with sagging after major weight loss. It is also a frequent surgery for Triad Syndrome later in life. There are also different types of Abdominoplasty such as complete, partial, extended and combination. Each one requires different surgical steps, has different costs, and has different recovery times.

Complete abdominoplasty is normally offered to patients who have large excess amounts of fat deposits both in the lower and middle abdominal area, very loose skin and lax muscles of the abdominal wall.

The surgery procedure known as partial or mini-abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), can be executed under local and will last somewhere around 1-2 hours. As the name mini-tummy tuck suggests, it is a less extensive operation than complete abdominoplasty, with fewer risks, smaller incision-scars and shorter recovery time, although the results on loose skin and abdominal muscle tightening are less impressive.

An extended abdominoplasty is a complete abdominoplasty with extensions into the thighs (front) and/or flanks.

Combination abdominoplasty is a component of a lower body lift and can be combined with liposuction contouring, breast reduction, breast lift, or occasionally hysterectomy, depending on the reason for the hysterectomy.

Of course like I mentioned above, each of these procedures has its own recovery time and depends on the surgical techniques used during the procedure, as well as other factors. It is important to follow the directions your doctor gives you, if you don’t follow the directions he gives you, you could seriously compromise the surgeries intended purpose! And lastly, the cost of a tummy tuck varies from location to location, and the cost of the procedure depends on age of the patient, weight of patient, and most importantly their state of health! In the United States, this procedure costs around $4,000 on up to $20,000. You also have to factor in that these prices aren’t just for a simple tummy tuck but for post-operative care, fees, anesthesia, medications, etc.

Unfortunately as with life, there are no guarantees this will or won’t work for you. However, there are several million websites you can visit online to see if this is the right procedure for you, there are also several e-books available online that can answer any question or concern you may have about this subject. Some of these e-books are even written under a Doctors guide to Abdominoplasty, so it’s not just someone writing a hack job tummy tuck book. This is real, genuine work. Take a look at some of these products the next time you are poking around for information!

The Ruby: Fire In A Gemstone

Posted by Tips Guides in Jewelry

Passion, heat and love. These words capture the essence of the ruby. This gemstone is one of the four classic precious gems - emerald, sapphire and diamond being the other three - and possibly the most coveted. Sure diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but put on a blood-red ruby tennis bracelet and you will sizzle.

Origin and make-up
Like the sapphire, this gemstone is corundum, a crystallized aluminum oxide formed under heat and pressure. In fact, it is exactly like the sapphire and the only colored corundum that is not called a sapphire. The chrome particles are what give it its delicious red color.

India was once the biggest supplier of the gemstones, but now Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has taken the lead in fine quality stones. You have probably heard of the wildly popular Burmese ruby because of its deep rich color. They are found throughout Asia including Pakistan, Nepal and Vietnam. More recently, they were discovered in Kenya and Tanzania in the 60s.

More than a birthstone
It is the birthstone for July, but July is not the only time important to this vibrant red gemstone. Valentine’s Day is a very big day for the rich red gem. A heart-shaped ruby pendant, red roses and chocolates- a triple score on the romantic gifts scale.

For enthusiasts, any time is a good time to get one, but there is one other official day that calls for this luscious red stone. Just like months and birthdays, anniversaries also have gemstones attached to specific years. This gemstone gets an important one- the 40th anniversary. A couple that can make it to their 40th anniversary is durable, lasting and probably still sizzling. What better way to commemorate this than a dazzling ruby necklace or some ruby diamond earrings.

Whether it is given as a birthstone or for any occasion, the red stone signifies love and affection for the recipient.

Cleaning these gemstones
This gemstone is hard - a 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness, which means it is very durable. Cleaning is easy. Your ruby necklace can be steamed, agitated in the ultrasonic cleaner or soaked in soapy warm water. A light brushing with a medium to soft bristled brush gets any dust out of the crevices. Diamonds are durable too, so if you have ruby diamond earrings, you can clean them as you normally would.

A bit of trivia
Sure purple means royalty, but red reigns. In Indian culture, it was literally treated like royalty. Whenever a stone of incomparable quality was found, the Emperor rolled out the pomp and circumstance as if it were a visiting dignitary instead of a gemstone. The Hindus would separate the stones into classes so that inferior quality stones could not taint the perfect stones and diminish their power.

This fiery red gemstone is considered the “king”, the most coveted and the most popular of all the gemstones. You will pay more for a perfect ruby pendant than you would for a diamond of similar quality. This is because finding them with the most desirable qualities- color, size and clarity- are rare. But, it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. As long as you choose the shade and cut you like, you will sizzle with the fire of this decadent gem.

Tips and Guides: Gemstone necklaces made of blood-red ruby can make you sizzle. It is the birthstone for July but whether it is given as a birthstone or for any occasion, the red stone is a token of love and affection. Read more about classic gemstones at http://www.gemaffair.com/.

Topaz: The November Birthstone

Posted by Tips Guides in Jewelry

One of the most versatile and stunning gemstone is Topaz, the birthstone for November born. There are a lot of interesting things to know about this gemstone.

Different Varieties
This gemstone comes in many colors and can be cut in a variety of flattering ways. The most common colors are probably blue and yellow. However, few come out of the ground naturally colored. The only natural blue mines are found in England, Ireland and Scotland so to make up for the small supply, the color has to be pulled out. Typically, white gemstones are used to obtain blue stones. They are actually exposed to radiation and then heated to set the color. So, if you find a natural blue topaz and diamond necklace, you will pay a pretty penny for it because of its rarity.

Where do they come from?
Most of these gems come out of Brazil, but there are several other mines across the world. Many locations are in Asia- China, Japan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Other areas include parts of the United States, Mexico and parts of Africa. The only natural blue deposits are found in England, Ireland and Scotland.

The November Birthstone
The month of November claims this gemstone as its own. In November, topaz rings are commonly purchased as birthday presents. With the variety of colors to choose from, you can take this opportunity to show your individuality. You don’t have to go with the crowd and wear yellow or blue. And, if you really want to surprise people, try a mystic fire topaz ring. What’s that? The bottom of a white stone is coated with a layer of titanium which creates a prism of vibrant colors as light passes through it.

How to care for your gemstones
This gemstone ranks 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness which means that it is fairly durable. If you try to crack or chip your topaz ring, you can. But, every day wear is fine for your jewelry. Normal cleaning at your local jewelers is fine and at home, you can soak it in warm soapy water and then wipe with a soft cloth.

History and lore
Like many gemstones, this one is believed to have magical properties. If you are worried about being poisoned, a topaz ring is supposed to help you detect the lethal substance. It is also believed to protect you from sudden death. If you are interested in topaz for these reasons, you may have bigger problems than jewelry! They not only protect you from your enemies, they also symbolize success because of their beauty and elegance.

The largest cut stone is found at The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. This yellow variety is nearly 23,000 carats! There are several other large cut stones on display. There is a 1680 carat gemstone in the Portuguese crown and is stored in Dresden, Germany.

Color and cut is a personal preference and this gemstone offers you a variety of choices. Whether you were born in November or not, you can find a stone- a sparkling mystic fire topaz ring or a mellow yellow topaz ring- that fits your style and personality.
