Learn The Truth About Liposuction Before You Decide

So, you want to know the truth about liposuction. You have an idea of what it is; who hasn’t seen those before and after shows where you watch a person’s fat get vacuumed out? You, however, want to know what is really involved and that is very smart of you. If you are thinking of having surgery done, any kind of surgery no matter how complicated or now minor it may be, it is a good idea to research the surgery and learn all you can about it.

Truth #1: The Fat Never Comes Back

Your body makes a finite amount of fat cells and those cells expand or contract depending on how much nourishment your body is storing. This means that, when you have fat removed, you are permanently removing fat cells from your body. This does not, however, mean that you won’t gain weight anymore. What it means is that your weight will be stored elsewhere. If you have the fat cells removed from your buttocks, the fat cells on your thighs and arms will get larger.

Truth #2: It Is Expensive

Fat removal surgery runs between three thousand and ten thousand dollars. Because fat removal is considered to be a purely cosmetic surgery it is not covered by insurance. Make sure that you can afford to pay your bills in full before you have your surgery done or you could end up being in debt for many years while you try to repay your doctor.

Truth #3: It is Safe

Fat removal surgery is very safe, though it is not one hundred percent free of complications. Make sure you have a qualified surgeon and are using a safe method of fat removal. There are still concerns about fat removal using ultrasound, so beware of any surgeon who swears by it. Make sure to do your research into the various methods and understand how each of them is performed.

Truth #4: There are Some Side Affects

After the surgery you might develop some bruising, and will probably experience some discomfort, pain, soreness and swelling. Sometimes it takes up to six months to completely recover from having plastic surgery. Sometimes, if your surgeon is not careful, you may experience asymmetry, some bagging of the skin, some fluid loss. You will need to wear some kind of restrictive clothing (like a girdle) to help the skin reshape itself and to reduce swelling. You will probably have to spend a couple of days in bed and will want to wait a couple of weeks before you attempt any kind of strenuous activity, and even then you should take things slowly.

There are lots of myths surrounding fat removal and the only way to figure out the truth about liposuction is to do your research and talk to your doctor. Your doctor will be able to talk you through any concerns you might have after researching the fat removal procedure you are considering. Together, you and your doctor can decide what kind, if any, of fat removal surgery you should have.
